Halcyon Brings V8 Power Back to Classic Rolls-Royce with New Great Eight Series

16Views

Halcyon has opened reservations for a new project built around old Rolls-Royce and Bentley hardware, though this time, electricity stays out of the picture. The British firm, known until now for battery-powered conversions of the Rolls-Royce Corniche and Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, now moves in the opposite direction with a combustion-led program called Great Eight Series.

The first car from this line starts from a fixed-head Corniche coupe. Halcyon names this version Rose and Scroll. Outside, the body wears Arboretum Green, while the cabin uses tan trim to match the exterior tone. Production stays capped at 60 examples, the same total planned earlier for Highland Heather, the Corniche electromod shown last fall.

Power comes from a 6.75-litre L-Series V8, an engine family linked for decades with Rolls-Royce and Bentley models and known as one of the longest-running engine lines in the industry. Halcyon does not install the unit unchanged. The company says internal work improves torque delivery and response, though output figures stay undisclosed.

“Our focus was on applying the right engineering discipline to refine and elevate it for modern use, improving response, smoothness, and overall composure while preserving the very essence that makes it so special. The result is an engine that feels entirely authentic, but capable in a way it never was before.”

The donor car goes through a full strip-down to bare metal. Work time reaches 5,000 hours, and the finished package includes newer chassis hardware. Halcyon fits adaptive suspension, upgrades the braking system, and adds continuously controlled electronic dampers. Three drive settings are available: Drive, Spirited, and Touring.

Inside, the original coupe layout stays visible, though several additions hide beneath familiar surfaces. A concealed infotainment unit sits inside the dashboard and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Cruise control, reversing camera, climate control, electrically adjustable seats, plus heating and ventilation, all join the package.

Materials stay close to the original spirit. Tan leather returns across the interior, open-pore wood remains present, and small green details echo the exterior finish. Nothing inside follows a flashy direction, which suits the car better, honestly.

Halcyon plans every build as an individual commission. Out of 60 cars, 30 use Rolls-Royce and Bentley Corniche drop head coupe donors, 20 use fixed-head coupes, and 10 use Bentley T-Series and Silver Shadow bases.

The engineering bill starts at £425,000, excluding donor vehicle cost and local taxes. At current exchange rates, the figure sits close to $572,000. Buyers without a donor car receive what Halcyon describes as “an acquisition service to source a suitable vehicle.” Delivery timing currently stretches to about one year.
