China’s Jetour Shanghai L10 Looks Ready to Challenge Adventure SUVs Worldwide

9Views

Rivian built its reputation around electric adventure vehicles aimed at families who want road trips, camping gear, and silent off-road travel in one package. The R1S sits near the center of that strategy. A 533-hp version with the Standard 270-mile battery already costs around $77,000, and moving higher in the range quickly pushes pricing further north.

The Dual Large stretches EPA-rated range to 329 miles. Buyers chasing maximum distance need the Dual Max, which targets roughly 410 mi from a full battery pack. Pricing climbs, too. The R1S Dual Large starts at $84,000, while the Dual Max requires another $7,000 above that figure. Rivian even charges $1,400 for the optional travel kitchen packed inside a bag.

Chinese brands noticed an opening there.

Jetour, a Chery Group brand, recently revealed the Shanghai L10, a three-row SUV blending styling cues associated with vehicles such as the GMC Yukon, Cadillac Vistiq, and Ford Explorer. The model stretches 197 inches long and targets buyers searching for large-family practicality mixed with outdoor-focused equipment. Pricing lands around $45,000 for a fully equipped version, at least according to the article’s estimate.

Official specifications remain unconfirmed. Still, the report expects the L10 to share hardware ideas with the smaller L7. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine reportedly works mainly as a generator for a medium-sized high-voltage LFP battery pack, while a dual-motor arrangement could push output beyond 400 hp. Combined driving distance allegedly reaches around 932 mi, or 1,500 km, once both energy sources are full.

Another setup enters the discussion, too. The automaker might also install a plug-in hybrid system using a smaller 1.5-liter combustion engine connected directly to the wheels, though the article doubts such a small engine fits a vehicle of this size. Because of that, the Shanghai L10 appears more likely to launch internationally as an extended-range electric vehicle.

And the camping hardware sounds extensive. Jetour fitted a self-deploying roof tent large enough for two adults, plus an inflatable mattress spanning the second and third rows. The cargo area hides an integrated kitchenette built from thickened aluminum beneath the trunk floor, while the quarter glass contains illuminated exterior storage.

The kitchen setup goes further than expected. Buyers receive an induction cooktop, a collapsible sink, a table doubling as a drawer, ice-storage space for drinks, and two outlets intended for coffee machines or kettles. Second-row captain’s chairs rotate backward and flatten toward the folded third row, forming a sleeping area without requiring the inflatable mattress. According to the report, silent air-conditioning operation helps reduce CO2 buildup overnight.

Jetour even added projector-screen compatibility, portable water-heater support, and power delivery for shower cords. A family of four could theoretically travel for days without touching a hotel room. That idea alone explains why established SUV makers might pay attention.
