The new Maserati Ghibli facelift was going to be their first step in approaching the “green way” with a hybrid model that packs up to 330 hp.
After months of promising from Maserati with all their teasers the new model has finally debuted on 15th of July 2020, previously being cancelled by the pandemic. We waited for a plug in Hybrid or at least a classic Hybrid but the new Maserati Ghibli, the first electrified model of its kind, comes with a micro hybrid system (MHEV).
Ghibli has been advertised to come with 2 new things at Maserati. First of all, the high end Sedan comes with a subtle but quite aggressive facelift, the front bumper and the headlights have been retouched, and the interior made space for a digital dashboard and a 10.1 in touchscreen in the middle of the dash which now hosts an infotainment system from Android Automotive.
The new Maserati comes with the newest infotainment system available for the Ghibli which they claim is way faster than the previous generation. It is operated through a higher-resolution 10.1 inch touchscreen with voice control for certain functions.
The second new thing is the hybrid system which is a first for Maserati, this being their first hybrid model. Under the hood the luxury Sedan packs a 2.0 4 cylinder in-line petrol engine, assisted by an electric compressor (eBooster) and a 48 V starter generator.
The whole system packs up to 330 hp and 450 Nm, resources sent to the rear wheels with the help of an 8 speed automatic transmission (ZF). The Ghibli can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 5.7 seconds and tops up to about 158 mph (255 km/h). The mileage consumption on the new hybrid beast from Maserati will be in between about 27 and 24 mpg (8.5 – 9.6 l/100km).
Maserati claims that the Hybrid Ghibli has the performance of a V6 with the CO2 emissions 25% lower being “technically hybrid”.
The Maserati Ghibli has been mainly designed for the European market with the European pollution laws getting more and more strict. The company anticipates a new version that will win 60% of the total of Ghibli sales. They’re getting optimistic and after all of these the same treatment will also be applied to the bigger models from their gamma: The Quattroporte and The Levante SUV hopefully with a better hybrid system.
