Elon Musk promised that the new Tesla Roadster 2020 will be the fastest production car in the world ever made (legal on streets).
Tesla Roadster 2020 is a supercar and a tribute for the first Tesla vehicle, the 2008 Tesla Roadster. Elon Musk has declared that this vehicle will be the fastest in 2020 accelerating from 0 to 60 in 2.1 seconds or even 1.9 seconds on the SpaceX model.
Sales must start at the final of this year even though the car has been announced in November 2017. They want to make a 4 seat model too with autopilot, automatic emergency brakes and 3 electric motors, two on the back, one in the front. Top speed exceeds 250 mph and the aerodynamic lines are as well a tribute for its old predecessor. We also get All-Wheel drive and “torque vectoring” for sharp turns.
The battery has a capacity of 200 kWh, twice the size of the already made Tesla models and is expected to have 620 miles autonomy (1000 km).
What’s interesting is that the back tires are wider than the front tires, but the difference shouldn’t be that bad on a visual level. Musk confirmed that he’s preparing a model with “little rockets” inspired from SpaceX. These rockets have cold gas, that can improve the handling and the speed of the car. There will be included an electric pump, which will charge a little air tank, which will charge the “little rockets”.
The system is taken from the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. The pressure will rise at almost 10.000 psi (700 bar) and the price will be as little as 200.000 USD comparative to other supercars like the Lamborghini Murcielago (354.000 USD) which is also way slower than the Tesla Roadster, accelerating from 0 to 60 in about 3.1 seconds compared to the top 1.9 seconds of the Tesla Roadster. Only 10.000 models will be manufactured every year.
Elon Musk said in one of the interviews he took and I quote: “You will be able to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back at highway speeds without needing to recharge.”
It has a very lightweight glass roof that can be removed and stored in the trunk for the best convertible driving experience that will be available at launch.
The Tesla Roadster is pegged to arrive on roads in 2020, initially priced from $250,000 for the first 1000 cars, which will be sold as Founders Edition models. Reservations for these cars are now open, with a payment of $189,000 required. Subsequent units will be priced from $200,000 , with reservations available for $48,000.
