The car has gained its fame in the well known movie “Back to the Future”, and this year, from ashes came hope. The company might be coming back with a brand new model of the well know DeLorean DMC-12.
It is perhaps one of the most famed extinct car company on the face of the earth but the DeLorean Motor Company made a splash and said it planned to buy some new models of the well known DMC-12 from new and old stock.
Even if the announcements were made 4 years ago we have seen some movement and the company might be able to kick off production and release the new model of the famed DMC-12.
They had to recall the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015 which gave companies the green light to build up to 325 cars per year without needing to adhere to modern safety regulations except the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The SEMA (Speciality Equipment Market Association) finally got the feds to kick things into gear after the group filed a lawsuit this past October. Now NHTSA has released guidelines for the law.
It’s still not set in stone but the famed company is closer than ever to get back into production and make a new model for the DMC-12 after almost 40 years, and they said that they expect to begin production in summer or fall of 2021.
The plans for the new DMC-12 DeLorean model are to change the engine to a more modern alternative but keep the same iconic look that the fans know and love and its expected price tag will float around 100.000 USD which might sound like a lot but for some fans, it’s really hard to put a price tag on nostalgia.
The model is supposed to be a sports car and will be the second car they ever produced as the first model has been manufactured between 1981 and 1982 and only 9000 models made in that time interval.
The company halted production in late December 1982 shortly after DMC had filed for bankruptcy.
The main options for the DeLorean DMC-12 as transmissions existed back then were a no cost 5 speed manual transmission or a simple 3 speed automatic transmission.
The new concept looks futuristic but keeps the old feel to it and that keeps the fans excited and waiting for the model to get into production but until then it still only remains a concept.
