Subaru isn’t reshaping the Forester for 2026; it’s simply adjusting it mostly where it counts for buyers right now — pricing.
Exterior
Physically, the 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid has black badges, dark gray badges, and 19-inch alloy wheels with a dark metallic coating that alters the position of the vehicle in the slightest way and gives it a more assertive appearance.

Interior
On the interior, the new Subaru surprises us with a combination of black and gray StarTex upholstery and brown contrast stitching. There is also the leather-wrapped steering wheel and an 11-speaker Harman/Kardon upscale audio system.

Powertrain Info
Another mechanical aspect, I mean, the standard Forester has the standard 2.5-liter flat-four engine, which has decent power—180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. This power is provided using a continuously variable transmission.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid, conversely, has the same 2.5-liter engine, but it is fitted with a lithium-ion battery and two electric motors that are included in the CVT. Its total horsepower is 194 and that is not bad. In addition, the fuel economy is 35 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.
Nothing here feels dramatic. No redesign, no radical shift. But the pricing strategy, combined with a darker new trim and a domestically built hybrid, suggests Subaru is playing this one carefully — and very deliberately.

The base Forester still starts at $29,995, and that figure excludes the $1,450 destination charge. That part hasn’t moved. But several trims above it have.
Subaru says the focus is affordability. Or, as Subaru of America’s CEO Jeff Walters put it, “We recognize that consumers are focused on affordability now, more than ever. This creates an opportunity to deliver even greater value for our customers in one of our core Subaru models.”
The Forester Premium now costs $31,995 instead of $33,385. The Sport drops to $34,795 from $36,105. Touring falls from $41,595 to $39,995. The Wilderness is $1,390 cheaper, and the Limited trim sees a $1,700 reduction. None of these changes alter the vehicle itself, but they shift its position in the segment. There is also the Forester Sport Onyx Edition which costs $36,495.
